Gone are the days of reading DIY manuals to fix the leaking tap, tile the bathroom or understand why wifi doesn’t work in the back bedroom. Our work/life balance is continually strained and no-one has time for home maintenance.
Life’s too short!
Our time starved generation expect their heating, plumbing, electric and technology to just work. They need a service they can rely on and someone they can turn to when it doesn’t.
The real rub is that things are only set to become more complex as technology percolates further into our lives and increasingly connected homes. We believe that the companies who’ll win will be those that marry elegant tech with effortless service.
Our aim? To be the service layer for your home.
Let’s be clear, this is a hugely ambitious project and only suitable for those brave enough and with the earned confidence to take on the challenge of creating a service which will become indispensable in people’s lives.
We have a fantastic opportunity to transform a market and make a positive change in people’s lives, but…
We need your help…
Our aim is to build a marketplace from the ground up and we’d like you to be our Engineer Network Manager sinking all of your energy into the supply side of that marketplace. Here’s a flavour of what we’d like you to focus on.
We’re going to need engineers. Lots of them and fast! For us ‘engineer’ is the term we use for the broad range of skilled tradesmen who work with their hands to complete the jobs our customers need. Our network includes plumbers, heating engineers, electricians and IT technicians — a broad range of trades and that’s only just the beginning.
Step one is sourcing and effectively on-boarding a huge number of talented engineers across multiple markets. As we do so you will set the most appropriate processes in place to make it easier the next time. You have a ton of experience defining lightweight processes for complicated, fragmented, rapidly changing environments and understand that the art to this is to keep things simple and ensure the focus is on the task, not the process itself.
We believe training will be a critical a part of incentivising freelance engineers to join the network. We’d like you to help us understand what the best training process, product and format will be for a distributed multi-disciplinary mobilised workforce.
You will act as the go-to contact for all engineer queries, identifying the most frequently asked questions and taking responsibility for turning those questions into a well managed cross-platform Engineer FAQ.
As the business grows so will the demands on our network, we understand that our service delivery will be critical to our success and as such we’d like to get things right from the get go. By working closely with our data science teams to understand the logistics you will be responsible for defining a scalable network capacity plan.
We think you’ll want to work with us because…
The opportunity to build a marketplace from the ground up, to work with an experienced team and execute against a clear vision is a rare opportunity and one we know you’ll want to grab with both hands. It’s a significant challenge that should be just the right side of scary and simply too compelling to say no to.
We believe our job is to create an experience that’s more than simply connecting homeowners and engineers, it’s about making people feel better and that applies to both sides of the market — it’s as important for us to help the engineers as it is the consumers. We already have some fabulous ideas about how we deliver on that goal but we’d love you to immerse yourself in this world and become ‘the voice of the network’.
Let’s be clear, we are not necessarily looking for a skilled plumber or Gas Safe registered engineer here (though of course we wouldn’t say no if you have these qualifications). The role is far more about communication and utilising your broad technical mindset than it is hands on engineering or deep knowledge of a particular trade.
You’ll be joining an exceptionally talented group of experienced professionals. Our senior execs have a fantastic track record of success leading some of the world’s largest, most innovative and high-growth businesses.
We are extremely well funded with financial backing from the global leader in the home services sector.
We are creating a product designed to make life easier and by joining us at the start of this journey you’ll have huge levels of input into what we create and will be absolutely instrumental in making this happen.
We are based in Kings Cross, London and do everything we can to make our office environment a place that’s enjoyable to hang out in.
And, as you would expect, we can offer a fabulous package commensurate with the role.
We already know a lot about you, we just need to be introduced….
You primary character traits centre around a triad of strong interpersonal skills, a positive approach to problem solving and a proven ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of personalities.
Your past experience in an engineering discipline coupled with your practical mindset ensure you are a perfect fit for our identified persona of the “diy have-a-go hero”.
You are comfortable operating in a high-growth environment and relish the opportunity to work with an outstanding multi-discipline team with a chance to create something special.
You are of course comfortable with a broad range of software (Google Docs, MS Office, Adobe CC Suite) but more importantly you’re confident in your ability to learn any software environment quickly and select the right tool for the job.
You will stand out because…
You are tireless in your pursuit of doing things right and your tenacity drives you to never stop until things are ‘just so’. Put simply, you care.
Transparency. Timeliness. Trust. These are the key tenets that underpin the thinking behind our approach — think of them as our not so secret weapon we plan on using to transform this market.
